Male Seahorse Problems

Hi All:

I have a seahorse pair in a quaratine tank while I get there tank fished. Learn that I need a bigger (taller) tank so I am going with a 29 gallon cube which appears to be tall enough. Learned this all from you guys...thanks!

The male today seems to have a several lesions on his exterior that concern me. Sorry don't have the ability to post pictures right now. However, I will try to explain it as best I can. The seahorse is a dark brown and the lesions (as I call them) look like the exterior skin has formed a whitish wound. Right now he as four or five of these on his exterior. He is eating well currently and appear alert.

My water quality is very good in the tank...no nitrates, no nitrite, or NH4.

I would like to know what is wrong with him and what is course of action.

Best guess would be that it's bacteria like vibriosis and probably the flesh will start to slough off soon.
I normally treat with Furan II and tri-sulpha.

What is the process for the treatment like and should I just treat the female at the same time?

I treat only the affected fish and do it in a separate container and dose according to the package instructions.
Do not stop the treatment until directions indicate, even if the problem appears to be resolved before that point.

Thanks Rayjay. BTW, are Furan II or tri-sulpha widely available? A quick search revealed that I can definately find these drugs on-line, but I am wondering if typcial LFS will carry it. Thanks Again!!

That will be the type of thing that just depends on the LFS's around you.
Here in London Ontario Canada, it is widely available, but the information is only a phone call away from the stores around you.

What temperature are they at? I would drop them down to 68 degrees as well as rayjay's suggestions. If its considerably warmer, you only want to drop 1-2 degrees a day. Lower temperatures help slow the spread of bacteria.
