managing company killing fish to earn profit off of restuarant

I think like anything in this hobby it could be a million things causing the problem. There are a ton of issues specific to a restaurant that would cause issues for a reef tank. Air quality alone is a big one, not to mention all the cleaning products used. I'm sure the fish are stressed more than in a normal home setting with all the noise/people ect. So it could be any number of factors including all the normal problems running a reef.

While it may be true they "don't care" because they can bill the client it seems bad business to "willingly" lose livestock on a constant basis. It's not like they are going to make any "real" money replacing fish considering the cost of their time.

Just remember everyone expects things to work but they don't care how or why. At first you try to educate/help but eventually you give up and just do your job, it's depressing how willfully ignorant the majority of people are.

why should the service company guarantee livestock in the customer's tank?

With your reasoning you can also make the statement "Why should a lfs guarantee livestock?"

The service company should guarantee their livestock for a certain time period, maybe a week, unless it can be determined that the fish died due to neglect or something that the owners did (in this case the restaurant).

To the OP, I would talk to the owners and try to explain everything to them. I would then offer my services, once a week at half the price that the aquarium servicing company is charging.

And the the tank, equipment, and fish are the property of the restaurant but the coral is the property of the servicing company??? What the ****??

many LFS do not guarantee the fish once it leaves the store's location. some stores have a guarantee that if the fish dies within a certain number of days, credit will NOT be issued without a testing of the water and inspection of the fish.

the service company has a lot on the line once the service tech leaves the customer's location and has to hope that the customer properly cares for the fish. i can understand why the LFS does not want to guarantee the fish.

Every fish store Ive been to in South Carolina and Georgia offer some sort of guarantee on fish (granted like you said a water sample is needed), but I wouldnt buy from a place that did not offer some type of guarantee... If they can`t guarantee their product then something seems wrong.
