Mandarin and Mystery Wrasse

IS mandarin and mistry wrasse compatable? I had a mandarin for 8 months and he never ate prepared food but was very healthy and fat. I added mystery wrasse about couple months ago and my mandarin died. Mine is a 250g system more than 1 1/2 year old with almost 200 lbs of live rocks. I am wondering if mystery wrasse and mandarin competed for the pods?

That is very strange, especially in a 250 G tank. Does the tank have a sump/fuge on it? I just added a Mandarin and have a wrasse and goby in the tank. I hope there is no competition there.

Ya, I have a fuge full of pods and there are tonnes of pods in the LR. I can see them at night crawling around.

That is really weird then. I wonder if it was just an aggression issue. I know my mandarin is very laid back and very slow, so I guess if there was aggression it would be an easy target.

Up until my ich outbreak and subsequent hypo treatment that killed the wrasses, I had a pair of mandarins and a pair of mystery wrasses in my 180 FOWLR and all were fat and happy. The mandarins eat frozen mysis and nls pellets, so i am very lucky in that they aren't dependent upon pods
