Mandarin Copepod Sustainability

In order to have a Mandarin I know you need a decent size population of copepods. My question is do you have to dose phytoplankton in order to preserve the Tisbe copepods that feed your mandarin or will they populate enough without phytoplankton from feeding on detritus? Thx

I've never fed my pods plankton of any sort. Have a very very healthy pod population. I'm assuming they feed off of the leftovers and detritus. I also seed my pod population every other month, or so...
