I love theses guys and current have a male Green in my tank. Can he get along with a female Red?

Yes I believe so. The trick seems to be size. Female mandarins will kill small males apparently. You aren't going to try this in the 55 gallon I'm assuming. You'll need over 100 gallons to keep 2 mandarins healthy.
