mandarin f/s: millbrook

I might be able to give him a good home. I live in Prattville, and have an 80 gallon B/F (same as yours if it's the one you posted on Everythingsalty.com).

Just want to make sure I can care for it right. What kind of diet do you have it on?

I just want to make clear of the specific needs of a mandarin. They need LIVE food to survive. He is currently housed in a 55g. It has/had a bunch of copepods at one time and a plethera of flatworms. I can honestly say I've never seen him eat as he likes to hover around the rocks, darting in and out. He's not a begger like the tang I have in their w/ him. As long as you have a supply of some sort of LIVE food he will be fine.

I'm upgrading to my 180 and I don't feel I could properly feed him in his new house. I got a wrasse a couple months back to eradicate the Flatworms faster. It worked, but since the live food is probably all gone, I feel he might be getting neglected. He's very pretty and I would sure like to find a more suitable habitat.

Chemjoey,
I got your pm about taking him. I see that you're new to salt. I don't care if you take him, but can you meet his dietary needs?

Jkburn,
if chemjoey can't feed him & since you're just down the street, can you take care of him?

Just as an FYI, Mandarins don't "need" live food to survive. 90% of them will eat brine shrimp within a week, even after being in a shipping box for 16 hours or more.... The only thing is, the food must float right past the mandarin in order for them to eat it. Of course, live foods are best, but it's very feasible to keep a mandarin happy in a tank with no pods at all, it just requires a lot of free floating foods in the water column.

Good luck finding him a good home!

If it's still available, I'd be glad to take it in. I've had over a decade of experience with them (though, they really aren't that hard if you have a mature set up and no wrasses (or a big enough system to accomodate a wrasse and a mandarin)).
