Mandarin Ghost

My male and female Green Mandarins have been spawning recently. The female was smaller and it took a while for them to mate - but now we definately have a pair.

I looked at the tank about two hours ago and my little female has lost almost all of her color (full daylight in tank for about 7 hours now). She is bulging some (always has been fat - but looks like she may have eggs too). She is going around the tank eating, BAU, but she looks like a ghost fish - like how they fade completely out when they sleep - but it is daylight and she is wide awake! Everyone else in the tank seems normal (shrimp, clowns, chromis, tangs, the male mandarin and a female spotted mandarin).

Is her massive color fade somehow related to hormones? I'm sorry if this is somewhere in the forum - but I can't find anything describing it. Any insight appreciated!

Plaz, I've never seen this happen in either pair of my mandarins...but yeah, before I even finished reading your post, their "nocturnal coloration" came to mind.

HMM...maybe she just woke up from a nap or something?

I hope so... but it has been two hours (maybe she was really, really sound asleep:-)! She is still wandering around picking off the rocks as normal otherwise!

This hobby never gets boring... scary sometimes... but never boring! Thanks for the info on your pairs.

All is well - her color went back to normal (after at least 3 hours).

I guess I have a sleep-eating fish on my hands!!!!
