Mandarin goby problems

Hey I have a mandarin goby (physcadelic Mandarin) whos got a little bit of a coating on his side, it looked at first to be sand and junk on him since I have black sand in my 10 gallon but I'm hoping its nothing worst.

As soon as I can take a pict I'll post but for now its not appearing to be ick but I'll begin treatment shortly.

Please help as this is my first attempt at caring for a mandarin and mine is chunky little guy.

Thanks

Mandarins don't hace scales, they are protected by a mucus coating. This coating is sticky and if they lean against gravel for a while it does stick to them. Mine constantly has something stuck to if but it always eventually comes off. Just make sure you have enough copods for them to eat and stay healthy. I've had mine for @ 6 months. fwiw imo.

10 gallon tank is way to small for that fish for the fact that it will eat all of the pods out of that tank in about 2 weeks and i personaly have never had luck with getting any mandarin to take prepared food. they are one of my favorite fish so for the fishes sake i might reconsider your choice on keeping that fish

I've heard of success with 10 gallons and mandarins as long as you keep a constant supply of rotifers and copods which is what I'm dropping in and he looks fat. A coworker just mentioned it looked sick but I'm assuming its just the a coating that sand etc is attracted to.

I'll post pictures if anything happens or his condition seems to worsten (ie, rot or signs of ick)
