Sounds like he got fin rot. What else do you have in the tank? It could have been nipped.

i got a yellow tang and a yellow tailed damsel. but they never touched him, from what ive seen he'd hide on the other side of the tank. i think i got him sick, i guess it just come with the hobby. shame he was such a nice looking fish

I would spend 40 dollars and setup a 10-15 gallon quarantine tank, just need a small back filter and or power head, heater and sponge filter. Then you can qt all your new fish for a month to make sure they are not ill and medicate if needed. Plus you can put them through hyposalinity which will kill some bad things like ich.

Its better to not introduce diseases/parasites into your main tank else you could risk losing all your fish.

I myself am very good about qt all new fish, I should probably do corals as well but have not.

Fin rot is a bacterial/fungal infection, but it is usually brought on by stress I believe. Doesn't sound like he was being harrassed, so... how did you acclimate him?

2 hour drip, but going forward im doing a qt tank. i think he wasnt doing good when i got him:(

Was he in good health when you bought him. Madarins tend to be picking eater and needs pods to survive. How long was he at the LFS? Did come from a tank with lots of pods? Was he eating?

It'll be a miracle ;)

LOL if he comes back he's going to be swimming with rats because i sent him to the porcelain god's. no he was with the store for maybe 4 hours, Pods wise i have tons all over the glass day or night. ill get another one after i add another one after i get 250.00 worth of more LR. the only sad part is that he was such a cool fish i wish i had him longer.
