So i started up a marine tank 6 months ago and think im doing quite well..... Its only a 50l tank and i have a common clown, yellow tale damsel, green mandarin and 5 snails. I read something earlier that green mandarins should not be in a tank smaller than 350l and my tank is 7 times smaller. Ive had him for 5 months and been giving him a pack of copepods a week, mysis block every second day and flake the other day. He seems to be doing fine and I have had no fatality's yet. Just wondering if anyone else has had any long term success doing anything similar?

Cheers
Tony

Is the mandarin actuallly eating the mysis and flake?

unless your feeding mysis 3-5 times a day he will eventually starve in a tank that size, unless your refugium is also 50l

No personal experience, but I think the gist is, if you can get them eating frozen consistently, they should be fine. If they are going on pods alone they can wipe out a population in a day unless you have a ginormous supply of them in a large fuge.

I've had my target Mandarin in a 40 breeder for the last 4 years no issues, but he eats frozen food and loves pellets.Targets or psychedelics are the easiest imo, greens the most difficult to get on food.

Exactly my experience I can keep a target alive but not a green and my fuge is crawling with pods

Scooters and red scooters seem to eat pellets and frozen and they don't do as much damage to the pod population

Ime greens will eat frozen then suddenly stop and switch to nothing but pods then they go downhill from there.
