Hey All,

One fish that I want is a Mandarin... Love these fish..

Does anyone know any of the LFS that trains Madarins of prepped/fozen food's?

i got a really little one from aquarium arts about 9 months ago and it was eating frozen. Look for the ones in there little tanks and asked them if they will eat frozen they will feed them in front of you so you can see if they will. Mine is still small but is a fatty

Mine was living in my 24 gal nano for about 9 months that tank had about 70lbs of live rock. The fish now lives in my 110 with over 150lbs of live rock.

I wouldn't do it, even if it does eat frozen, it won't be enough to sustain it long term, they need pods to survive...manually adding pods in the nano will get expensive. IMO, they need a large established reef with a fuge with a constant pod population.

What other fish do you have? any wrasses or anything that would compete for live food with the mandy?

you have a good point there im not sure about mine it was staying very fat in my nano but it had alot of lr

I've seen the spotted mandarins at The Ocean Floor eating frozen. No luck with the ones at Pets Inc though.

Someone at The Ocean Floor told me that they are able to train spotted mandarins easier than the other varieties but I don't know how much truth there is to that.

And I'd like to point out that there are people who have successfully kept mandarins in nanos...it just takes a lot of work. If they'll eat frozen that's good but you should probably still try to feed them multiple times a day. They don't eat much at any given time. I'd utilize live brine too.

In my humble opinion you should get a good pod growth in your tank first. These are very difficult to keep with out a good amount of copepods to feed on.
