mandarin on pellets

for those of you who have pellet eating mandarins, how much do you feed each day? i usually feed 3 times a day (around 15 S-size pellets total) to my spotted. i don't even feed my damsel that much. should i cut back or feed more to the spotted?

while it is possible to get them to eat very small pellets, flakes, etc........it's not really a viable solution in a community tank because they are such slow eaters.

Mine used to eat this stuff, but it was rare it would get any because other other fish fed so aggressively. Even if i tried to spot feed it the other fish would just take the food first and push it to the side.

I don't have mine on pellets, but she eats mysis/brine (but only out of an airline tube connected to an eyedropper).

If the food is free floating, or on the ground, she ignores it.

She eats a LOT, as many as 8-10 pieces of mysis, which is almost as much as my 3" clown, and more than my Ebili Angel. Still trying to fatten her up from her stay at the LFS..she was pretty thin when I got her.

I also wonder if this heavy eating is normal or if it's just because she wasn't eating at the store.

my spotted converted to pellets now after eating freeze dried brines for 1 week. i have lots of time and feed her pellets by hand 3x a day (5 pellets each time). she won't eat it if it touches the ground. i noticed if she eats 15 pellets on one day, she would only eat around half that the next. so, i guess i answer my own question.. i'll be feeding her around 3-4 pellets each time, 3x a day. thanks for the reference point guys.

Isn't it funny how they won't eat food after it hits the sand?!?

And yet, she'll pick at the rocks all day long for pods....hrmmm.

yea, i guess it is funny.. and frustrating at the same time. but we do whatever we can for them. we owe them that much for taking them from their natural home. i think they pick at bugs or other life in the sand while in the wild. and where they are, there are probably swarms of pods and all they had to do was open their mouths. lol

my spotted was skinny beyond hope at the lfs just like yours, i was determined not to let her die there, so i took her home. now she acts like the queen :frog: takes me forever to feed her
