I have had my mandarin for a few months now. Its healty and eating prepared foods and eating from the live rock as well... Just noticed early this morning prior to go to work that it has swimming constantly on the suface of the water... I try moving him back to the water but noticed him staying back to the top of the water line ?????? This seems bad to me as my previous clowns that perished did this same manner of behavior prior to croaking....

Yeah, I have mine did the same thing for a day or two when I got him. But he went to back to his normal self. Then he did it again when I the tank was move. To me, I think they are stress out by something to cause them to do that. Hopefully yours make it.

THe only thing that I think that could cause he stress is a 5" pinkspot that only shoos him off his back coner of the tank, which the mandarin loves going to for some reason and never learns that its the watchmans area.

You might try asking Teakie from saltaquarium.about.com. She has keep mandarins and try breeding them. She might know about their behavior.

Ah, she's doing ok again... probly ****ed off the large watchman and ended up chasing her around... but shes been back to the bottom and rocks again on her usuall.

Good to hear Charles that she's doing well.

There is nothing worse than watching a fish do so well and then go south for no apparent reason.
