I bought a mandarin from my LFS. It was pretty filled out when I got it, so it was not starving to death.
It developed a bump on it's side right behind the ribs, and at first the bump was the same colors as the fish, just a little translucent. The bump got bigger, and more see through, but it was obvious it was forming from the inside.
After about a week, the bump popped, and turned into a hole in the fishes side. It seemed to close up and for another week it was looking like it was healing. Yesterday it looked like it opened up again. No bump, just a slit about 1/8th inch long.
The fish has continued to graze on pods all over the tank. It has never stopped eating or acted sick. It has, however gotten very skinny since the bump popped.
I don't know what to do other than let nature take its course, but it really upsets me that this has happened.
I think it must have been some kind of internal parasite.
Have any of you heard of this happening before?
Any suggestions as to what I can do to help the fish heal?
