Wow my mandarins are doing there dance preparing to spawn. I have three mated pairs of clownfish and a mated pair of mandarins and these are the first to attepmt to breed. Has anyone ever tried and had any luck raising them?
If you do get any mandarine to breed and captive raise successfully it'll be a record! I mean it is hard enough just to keep them around and let along breeding. (hopefully they aren't hosed with those monsters in your avatar) Keep us posted.
A guy I met from WAMAS (washington marine society) sold a breeding pair. I was a day too late, but I'd like very much to get a few and give it a try. Anyone else have breeding mandarins? Also, Reefpimp#1 - do you keep your breeding clowns in the same tank? I have a 72" 125 gallon with two tomato clowns - but they do not breed. I have 3 BTA - a rose and two green. The rose and one green are huge - I will frag each of them soon, so I will have 5 BTA's. Any suggestions on getting more clowns? I would like to get a breeding pair established.
they have been bred and raised before with sucess by rsman here on RC. he has been away for a while but shoot him a PM and mabey he can help you out. good luck
edwardj I half a 150 that only 4 feet lonf and 2 feet deep I have three mated pairs of clowns each in there own couple of anemones. Pink skunks orange skunks and fasle perculas all of which are fairly nice unlike your tomatos which are some of the most aggresive clowns. With the length of your tank it may be possible if you introduce them to an anemone that the host at the opposite end of the tank. I the start to wonder around the tank it could cause problems. It really just depends on the fish though it could go either way good luck.
check out the fish breeding forum (FBF).
Congrats on getting them to breed, thats the asy part, the fry are slightly more difficult, but not impossible..
Yes mandarin have been bred in captivity before and cool part is hopefully you can document your journey.
Please do a search in the FBF, you''ll find some great info there
