Mangrove and Chaeto?

I want to keep 1 single stalk of red mangrove and some chaeto around it in an AquaClear 500 converted refugium for my MiniBow 5. lighting will be a 19Watt 6,500K PC bulb.

What do you guys think? doable? If so anyone have a red mangrove plant with leaves already that they can sell me?

Thanks

It may work for a while but the mangrove's roots will fill the AquaClear. I would use just the chaeto because chaeto will remove the nutrients faster than the mangrove and you don't really have room for both.

I have about 10 mangroves growing in my refugium with a ton of macro (4 species including chaeto). I think your only limiting factor is the the lighting. Mangroves do best with bright light. Mangroves remove nutrients from the sandbed, which chaeto cannot do well.

I've got 18 mangrove sprouts coming tomorrow in styrofoam. Should I put them on the bottom of the fuge and weight them down with some rock, or let them float, if they float they will be close to the light? I also have a couple quarts of chaeto coming to put in with the mangroves. Thanks for your help.......

mangroves

Hi!:

I have chaeto & sargassum in my sump, both macro's were doing great then I added 3 red mangrove plants. It's been 4 months & the mangrove roots are now embedded in the mud sediment & have out competed the other macro's to the point that my chaeto & sargassum are disappearing. I plan on adding more mangrove plants because at least in my mud filter they are absoring the nutrients faster than the other macro's.
