mangrove problem?

I bought a red mangrove shoot a week ago, and it had some 1/2" roots starting and a little green "hook" of a stem growing out the top. The roots have not grown (not enough time?) and the green stem has turned black. Will the stem come back? Is this normal?

The only way to get a mangrove to start to grow in your tank, is to get an unsprouted propagule. The propagule you purchased was sprouted and started to grow. This can be a problem because it is adjusted the the salinity and light that it was sprouted in. With a sudden change of salinity and light, it can kill a young mangrove.
