Anybody have any good information on starting off with mangroves? I have two Red Mangroves and i just have them sitting in my overflow box (the box in the aquarium) and they both hardly have any roots coming out the bottom and just look like they are dyeing but i have only had the for 3-4 weeks i would like to start an 20 gal. mangrove tank as sort of a filter but i need some help please.

It really, really helps to have them in some sort of substrate so they don't waste energy trying to reach out for something to grab. Mangroves also are not the fastest growers, so keep that in mind.

How much light you have one them. I guess they require quite a bit of light, although I haven't given mine much. Might be why mine are not looking so great.

I am planning on putting mangroves in my fuge that I am currently planning. What kind of substrate do the like most?

I've been told muds are the best, followed by sand and last by rock. My own short experiences appear to echo this.
