Manifold Plumbing Poll?

Making a manifold for my 130 gallon new build. Will likely add a ball valve for Carbon/GFO reactor and two to four more valves for possible future items like GFO or Chiller or Bio pellets or who knows what else.

The question is would you make the manifold with 1/2 inch valves or 3/4 inch valves or maybe 2 of each size?

What do you guys think?

I've never built a manifold so can't really comment on the size, I would think its the same size as the rest of your plumbing though. However gate valves would be a better option for controlling flow as that's what there made for. A ball valve is best for open or closed and you get far more precision from a gate valve then you do a ball valve.

I guess my thinking is 3 fold. Whats needed vs cost vs size. I can fit the 1/2 valves easier than the 3/4 inch ones i bought 1 of each and they are roughly double the real estate size wise. The larger valves are always a few bucks more but when you are talking 1 to 6 valves I guess that is less important. Last my current GFO reactor is plumbed with 1/2 inch my chiller line is plumbed at 3/4 inch. So guess my real question to myself is what device am i most likely to add and what size is it plumbed for. Thanks top shelf I am using a gate valve for precise flow items but the ball valves are really all i need for these other reactors. Also my pump will be at 1.5 inch reduced into 1 inch t that is further reduced to the 3/4 return lines to the tank and the manifold.

If future devices only need 1/2 inch flow this picture shows what I gain in space/room under the tank.

This is an important consideration when plumbing inside the stand.

I plumbed a 4 port 1 1/2" manifold in my setup. I used 1/2" ball valves. It would have been very difficult to fit 3/4" valves and plumbing under my stand with the two 1 1/4" returns and the four drain pipes that I ran.

The amount of real estate you have is key. My stand is relatively short, so that complicated things. I wish I had the room to run 3/4" off my manifold.

Don't forget to factor in a ball valve to isolate the manifold from the pump/return plumbing. A 1 1/2" ball valve takes quite a bit of space.
