Mantis Frag tank?

Just keep in mind that every mantis is different. M G. ternatensis (Mike Tyson) made very short work of some sort of fleshy blob (sponge maybe) on a piece of live rock. I just added three coral frags to my setup, and I'm trying to monitor his activities very closely. There is also the possibility of your mantis taking your frags for use in his decorating, so they could potentially be moved to another part of the tank and may or may not be damaged in the process.

I suppose, since he isn't light dependent, I could build a shelf of egg crate that covered the whole top half of his tank, maybe say 2 or 3 inches below the water's surface if he becomes a problem.
Or maybe say build an egg crate rack over half his tank. Maybe if they weren't on the sand he'd leave um alone. I got a feeling though that my hand is going to have to be in his tank almost every day after I start all that though.
Oh, well just a thought.

If you do the egg crate, I'd just do half the tank. If you have live rock in the tank are are wanting coralline algae to grow, you'll need the light to reach that rock. For that matter, if you have a decent amount of rock or if your rock is built up high, you could glue the frags to the higher portions of the rock. I don't think he'd travel high on the rock to find frags for building, but that's just speculation. I'm planning on gluing my zoo frag to a branch a bit higher in the tank. In fact, I'm going to do that right now. Good luck!

my mantis would steal frags that were on pieces of rock that were half his body size. he'd use them to plug holes in LR (which is cool, because instead of the frags being on the floor, he has mounted them for me.)
i've noticed that he will leave frags alone if the rubble they're mounted on is at least 1.5 times his size.
