Mantis Is Coming!

Wahoo! ZURCSREEF finally caught the mantis in his tank and is sending it my way! now, i have a question. Ive had my tank that I will house this little bugger in up and running for a while, but i was questioning on the setup of the live rock in there. should i try to make a makeshift cave out of it, or kinda just tumble the rocks in and let him find his own hole/cave? i have little pieces of rubble and what not already in there, so he can build his little heart out. ANy suggestions from the masters on here? any tips in general for a first time mantis keeper??? thanks!

thanks! ya, i know a lot of people have seen me asking on multiple sites....... took long enough to find one!! haha. thanks though!

tahts gonna be the interesting part, figuring out what specie he is.... haha. Im sure roy's website will help tremendously with that. Right now he is about an inch long apparently, so im putting him in my 2 gal. ill let you know how it goes when i get him (or her!). should be here friday.

read back on some of the previous threads in here. You will find lots of answers (like a good way to provide a burrow is a piece of PVC.) Congrats on your new buddy, I am working on getting a 3rd. I had a glaborus, but it didn't make it through a molt. Other than that, these little beasts are pretty hardy.

Congrats!
I tossed in the LR and rubble and let my O.S. mantis do what she will with it, really cool watching her go at it. Everyday something was new until she got it just right for herself. My LFS store called today and my arcylic 20L came in so now I can move her to the new home soon.

awesome! ya, im thinking im gonna just do a half cave and let the mantis decide whats best for him. has anyone kept fish with their mantis successfully, or is it pretty much a givin that if it moves in the mantis tank its gonna die? (haha, that sounds like a cheap horror movie kinda)

no, fish are cool, as long as they are bigger and dont want to eat the mantis... or investigate the mantis, you will want to little space though because the mantis will become slightly aggressive before a molt. I once say my ~6" peacock dart and strike at my 4 inch allardi clown the day before she molted, no harm done though....

awesome, thats what i thought, but was just trying to confirm..... ill keep you guys updated on my mantis "shrine" as it gets going (and try to find a digi camera to take some pics) any other tips you guys got?
