Mantis question

How loud is the sound of a Mantis Shrimp? would I be able to hear it in the next room?

I think I have one in my tank that I don't want, he may be the culprit to 2 missing fish, and several hermit crab deaths. I just haven't heard any clicking sounds, and I have know idea where he is in the tank.

OOH OOH! I want him if you catch it, if indeed it is a mantis. They're not always loud. I wouldn't expect you to be able to hear it in the next room, especially if there was any other source of sound.

Sold to Mrs K! It's yours if I catch it. I see you are in Georgia, are you nere Athens by any chance?

Got any advice for catching it.

About 35-40 minute drive. I'll gladly come pick it up as soon as you catch it. I've been wanting one for a while. Now I'm excited!

Don't get too excited, I have to catch him first. I put a trap in last night, no luck just snails. If this works out I would love to see your mantis tank, from what I've read so far they seem like pretty cool creatures. I'll say this though, this guy is a terror, as far as I can tell he is responsible for the deeath of two fish, and three hermit crabs. He's had more expensive meals then I have in the last month!

Wish me happy hunting!

try garlic soaked scallops, that is the only thing that can entice my peacock to QUICKLY venture far from her burrow!

Thanks, can I use garlic powder (like for garlic toast) or do I have to buy the bottle that they sell for fish food? (sorry for the stupid question, on a budget of course)

i wouldnt use the powder.... if you low budget, just go buy a clove of garlic at the grocery, freshly choppped garlic is better anyways... But, mine seems to LOVE the smell of scallops and garlic, but I use "garlicguard"... it seems to permeate the water quickly and thoroughly hopefully luring him straight to the trap!

I'll have to beg my husband to part with a clove of garlic, he loves the stuff.

How bad is my tank going to smell after this? I have the mother-in-law coming for a visit. She already thinks I've lost my mind.

LOL...Isn't it amazing how sometimes out pets, or pests, eat better than we do?!?! Fear not...the mantis will be in a tank all its own, with only snails, crabs, and perhaps a $5 damsel or two. Perhaps, I definitely won't put any in there, if indeed he does show aggression towards fish. I'm not like some others. I don't trust smashers enough to believe that they'll never attack a fish, and I owuld never put an expensive fish in the tank, and won't even put damsels in if I know that he'll attack.

I'm sorry to hear about your fish, and I hope that you can get the mantis out soon...not just for my benefit, but also so that you can work on replacing your lost fishies.
