Mantis safe

What are some fish that would be safe with a Peacock Mantis?

I know fuana that stay higher in the water column would work but what are some that are fairly common and 'affordable'?

I wouldn't do it. Top dwellers will eventually come down to a waiting mantis, and larger curious fish can receive serious injury from nosing a mantis.

I wouldn't put any fish you care about keeping with a peacock mantis. Mantises, for the most part, are for solitary tanks.

Yeah... I currently have mine in a 20g alone... I just read that some people keep fish so I got curious.

just do some damsels, if nothing else will end up a good dinner for him. i have a mantis, not a peacock but i put in 2 damsels about 3 months ago, one got killed and eaten in about 15 seconds, the other one is still hanging and the mantis pays no attention to him.

How big are they? The damsel and your mantis...

I have a damsel in with my Zebra mantis that was supposed to be dinner but has become a neighbor instead. I wouldn't put anything in with a mantis unless you are willing to let it become food at some point.

That was part of the reason I was looking for "affordable"

Affordable as in $$ and affordable as in willing to lose.

I guess damsels have had the most votes...

I've heard of several people keeping clowns too...

my mantis is only about 4" (pretty much full grown for him) and i bought the damsels med size, one that stayed alive has grown. i think they just figure eachother tankmates. damsels are going to be the only "affordable" saltwater fish unless you've just got money to burn.
