I have been trying to get a small mantis shrimp. If any of your guys catch one and do not mind shipping it to me, I am very interested. I will pay for shipping and materials of course. If anyone does not know how to ship them please check out the Mantis Shrimp board here and there is a thread that tells you how to ship them. Thanks everyone for your time.

Hey Bradley,

I am in Woodinville and I should be getting my Mantis trap in the next couple days. If I have any luck you can have him for the cost of driving out here. He is fairly large 2" or so I would guess, and red.

Sure...

Sure...

Sure I will take him. Thanks. Have any pictures? Just let me know when you catch him and I will come out there ASAP. What live rock did you get him on?

What...

What...

What would I need to transport him? It is about an hours drive and that is if there is not much traffic.

PS How come I do not see any pictures of your tank here?

The thread that I have my pictures in is about 5 months old.. :(

I got him on TBS rock, and a decent sized tupperware is all you would need.

I have...

I have seen your tank thread before. Nice setup! I am really greatful that you offer your mantis shrimp to me, when you catch him that is. I am actually going to do another tank soon and I will be doing a TBS tank. My only concern is that it is full of so much life and the cycling process. Most likely I am going to do a 29 gallon. I may go up to a 65 gallon, but I do not think so. You should have your tank in out next carpool tank thingy in PSAS. Are you a member? Anyways, thanks again. If you have any pictures of the mantis that would be great. You may call me as well at (206) 391-2880.

PS How is your tank doing anyway?

Thanks,

I am planning on joining PSAS prior to the November thing. Do you know when the next carpool thing is?

Also as an aside I recently moved my butterfly to a 15g Eclipse hospital tank. When I set it up I the hospital tank I grabed one of my pieces of LR that was extra (and not looking all that good in the big tank to be honest). ANYWAY, I started hearing clicking from the hospital tank and I was thinking WHOOO! Maybe I got my big mantis without even trying. ROFL - nope. Lookin in there I found a tiny green mantis that couldn't be more than a 1/2" long and 1/8" wide. It was funny though since he was clicking SOOO loud. I also found a tiny lobster (1/2" long today) and a couple more baby gorilla crabs. Could these things be breeding in my tank? It's been 10 months, how long do these things stay small?

Not sure...

Not sure...

Not sure when the next car pool is going to happen. The last one was in the summer time. If you go to a meeting and ask around you may be able to talk to everyone and get them to do another one sooner. It sounds like they might have been breeding. I am not sure how long it takes for a mantis shrimp to grow, but those crabs grow pretty fast. You may have a problem. I would post your question on the mantis thread in this site. Dr Roy and other will be more help. I decided to do a thirty gallon tank next. Anyway I could get a picture of the mantis? I only ask so I could get Dr Roy to tell me what species it is. I still want it no matter what though. Ten months and you are still finding stuff, bad and good. That is so cool. You see I want to do a Florida/Carribean tank. Let it go natural and not mess with much.

Well I haven't spotted him in about a week; however the next time I do I will snap a photo. I am assuming that since he has been absent that he is hiding somewhere and molting. Probably means that he will be bigger next time around.

I hope...

I hope...

I hope your trap works when you get it. Do they work well? How did you get the other mantis shrimp out? Did you ask anyone else about perhaps haveing some breeding problems in your tank?

Not yet. I am waiting for Splach to recieve his mantis trap so he may be able to get the mantis shrimp out of his tank.

So far no luck with the trap at all. Not even a hermit crab... I think I am doing something wrong. Maybe he is still molting...

You may...

You may...

You may not have any luck with your trap. At least at first. May take some time. Thanks for keeping me up to date though.

Howdy,

I got the X-terminator trap. Prolly loaded the thing 2 dozen times now with no luck. I also haven't seen the mantis in a month now. I am now going on the assumption that Samson killed him before I got him out (Samson is a 3" across gorilla crab).

OK, thanks for letting me know. If you do see him or trap him please let me know. Thanks again.
