Mantis Shrimp........who cares

Have had my 90 package in for over three months now, have been adding corals and have 4 fish happily swimming about. Have had clicking sounds from day one and frankly am finding it hard to spend any energy trying to track down its source, much less remove it.

If you read the site you would think the Mantis and gorilla crabs are the devil themselves. So far everyone in my little world is getting along fine, including the banished species. My goal is to let it be until they cause a problem. So far so good.

I had one in my 180 for years and other than eating my hermits and snails, he never really became a problem. However, they all have their own personalities and taste in food, so you may find $200 of fish gone one day when he gets a taste for them. Don't even get me started on crabs. They are nothing but trouble.

I've witnessed my (large) gorilla crabs literally tearing chunks of life off of my rock. They've eaten all of the feather duster worms, and I saw one the other day going after one of my serpent stars, snapping at its legs. I've no doubt that a gorilla crab that size could kill one of those stars. They are bad news. Fortunately, I've killed two big ones, but have at least one big one left. Several small ones as well, though they don't seem to wreak that kind of havoc...yet.

As far as the Mantis, I've personally captured 4, and I still hear clicking from two distinct spots. I haven't witnessed carnage from the mantis the way I've seen it from the gorillas, but that may simply be that they don't seem to show themselves during the day. I've heard many stories of Mantis' killing prized fish, however.

I know what you're saying about hunting them down. I'm weary of that too. But if the opportunity arises, I'd definitely take action to remove them.
