Mantis tank trouble

I've got a 18g with some live rock, two corals and a 5in peacock mantis. My question is since I have started to feed the coral and liverock the alge has grown very quickly but I can deal with that. But since the alge has grown the whole tank has been over run with these tiny bugs( not over 5 millimeters) if any one knows how to get rid of them please tell?

BUT, Your mantis shrimp will probably eat the fish first.

BTW, any fish would eat thses tiny bugs.


Be careful, mantis shrimp can brake your fingers and also the glass of your tank.

Don't put your hands in there.

These tiny bugs are a type of pod, which are harmless to your tank and have exploded in population most likely due to overfeeding (which is most likely responsible for the algae bloom). I wouldnt worry about them, and I definetely would not put a six line wrasse in a 18 gallon to get rid of something as harmless and beneficial as a pod population. IMO the huge amount of algae is again: due to overfeeding, or if your tank is a new set up this could be a large initial algae bloom (normal) and is being amplified by the overfeeding. If your more curious as to the pod's just do a search and you'll find an immense amount of info on them. Hope that helps.

Thanks the tank is thick acrilic and is about a year old. I'll cut back on the feedings and see if that helps and as long as their harmless they can stay. And I always use a long handled algae scraper after I saw him eat a snail.
