Mantis trap

hypotonic salt water is just salt water that has a less than normal amount of salt. (lower sg). i wanted to give the rocks a dip but didnt want to put them in straight fresh water because they have only been situated in my tank for one week. my thought was that it would be so shocking to the lr.

yea it is far easier knowing not only the rocks where these critters live but also the holes they use. the two mantis in my tank were very bold. the smaller would look at me from its entrance all the time and the larger would leave the rock to actually duel with its reflection in the glass. he would also scurry across the top of the lr to hunt. i thought that i might be able to grab him but after an hour of defeat went to the dip solution.

i feel kind of sorry for these two. going from the ocean toa coffe can in chicago is a serious step down in real estate. they'll find a home soon enough.

Wow yours are bold. The only one I caught I caught him in the corner of my eye by accident. The others I spend nights with the flashlight, I hear them but never caught a glimpse. Also though nothing in my tank is getting killed off. Unless the are attacking the small hermits and snails...

heh heh. last night i heard clicking coming from the tank again and i saw the tell-tale stream of sand shooting from the rock. i have a third mantis that i didnt know about. this is a mantis farm i have over here.
