Mantis vs Urchin

Anybody ever see a mantis go after an Urchin? I had a few Urchins that started to vanish and end up in a pile of needle and cracked shells behind a rock. I was wondering if mantis have a taste for them?

it's possible that he ate them, they are slow moving and he can crack through the shell part

Someone over on Grimreefers posted pics last year of an urchin that his Mantis had killed/eaten.

O. scyllarus will certainly take them. I've also seen G. chiragra and N. oerstedii eat them in the field.

thanks, I was having a hard time trying to figure out what did the urchins in. Seems to be the only thing inthe tank capable.

I have a 3.5-4 inch peacock and a urchin and she couldn't care less about it... although, maybe if she would beat it up a bit it would eat more algae... It is kind of slacking a bit, but as far as the combination goes, I havent had a problem (for almost 2 months now) which surprised me as well, but I guess she could always change her mind on the issue...

mine is a longspine or a close relative of it... and is still doing just fine with my peacock...

the urchin is probably the size of a silver dollar, maybe a bit bigger. My peacock just molted and she is probably a good 4 inches, if not a little longer now...
