I was at my LFS and saw this awsome angel fish called the manybanded angelfish.(Paracentropyge multifasciatus) I really want one for my 90 gallon reef. The guy at my LFS says that this is one of the only reef safe angels along with the Lamark Angel(Which I have kept before in a Reef)

My question is will it do ok in my tank? I have read that they are hard to feed but the one in the LFS has been in their for four weeks. he had to be eating something

Stock List
1 Purple Tang
1 Blue Chromie
1 Orange Diamond Goby

Will he be ok in my tank?

yeah,,but what, did you ask? ya got to see it eat and a fish like this you want it eating vigorously, right?

"This fish is secretive in the wild and difficult to maintain in aquaria. They are thought to be sponge and tunicates eaters. They need plenty of caves and hiding places, low lighting, and no aggressive tankmates."

based on the vibe i'm getting from that description..this fish doesn't sound much like something your tank is setup for.

I've got some really bad news. I went to my LFS and picked one Manybanded Angel up. He said he had been eating well the other night. I know I can trust this LFS. So I got him. As soon as I put him in my 90 gallon and the purple tang imediantly started attacking him. The tang was going to kill him.:( I took him out very quickly and put him in my 12 gallon aquapod. Tommorow I will have to take him back to the LFS. he wasn't damaged thankfully. No torn fins or anthing. But I can't keep anymore fish in my 90 gallon. Poor little angel.:(

ya didn't make the connection there eh? ya got one of the aggressive tangs in there....
some species can handle the initial onslaught a bit better, i didnt think that fish would do all that well.

I put a midas blenny in their and an orange spotted sleeper goby. Midas jumped but the tang did not mess with either of them.

Blennies and gobies are longer, narrow fish. Lots of them spend their time on or near some kind of substrate. On the other hand, angels are closer to tangs in shape, and spend a lot of their time doing what tangs do- they pick at the rock, glass, and/or substrate for food. Because of this, meaner tangs see angels as competition and try to eliminate them. The same goes for angels in regard to tangs. It all depends on the temperament, size, and species of the fish in question.
