I've lost 2 of 5 PJ cardinals in the last 2 days. Symptoms were lack of appetite, listlessness, fast 'breathing.' The first fish to really show symptoms also had a swollen/hazy spot just behind his second dorsal.
I thought this might be velvet, and did a 3 minute fresh water dip as described here (link found in a Reefkeeping.com article by Steven Pro). Some stuff was left in the water after I returned the fish to QT, but not exactly the 'dust or powder' mentioned in the article.
I went through this with the LFS, who told me they'd been seeing a lot of PJs coming in with bacterial infections and advised Maracyn 2.
I've now given the initial dose of Maracyn 2, and the one survivor who was becoming listless seems a little more active, but that just might be that he's nocturnal and i've gotten paranoid
So, at last, my question is, would it make sense for me to dose copper along with the Maracyn, just in case it is velvet after all? I've got Seachem's Cupramine which explicitely states not to do this. Maracyn, on the other hand, vaguely encourages combinine medicines (as long as they're all Mardel!
)
Thanks, all!
