Maracyn Plus

I am looking at using Maracyn Plus in a QT tank.

The directions note:

"Add one capful (10ml) per 10 gallons of water. Treat on days 1, 3, and 5. Maintain normal filtration and air during treatment."

Should Carbon be removed or does it not make a difference with this med? Also, should water changes be done between the treatments?

"Normal filtration" means you can leave carbon in. Carbon really serves no purpose in a QT though. and (just out of habit), I never use carbon with meds. If you needed to do WCs, it would tell you. WCs dilute the med, so I wouldn't. BTW, what are you treating?

Along with this post, I contacted Liveaquaria and they recommended to go ahead and use the Maracyn Plus just in case. They stated there is no downside so I am debating to use it.

I just used Maracyn Plus for fin rot on my PBT. I did do water changes every other day before I added the next dose because of the ammonia spikes. I think if you can hold off on the water changes you should. By adding a dose every other day as directed, you are slowly upping his antibiotics. Maracyn Plus worked really well on my PBT regardless of my water changes. His fins are growing back quickly. One more thing, I did not run carbon. You risk extracting the meds by using it. Hope this helps.

Ya know, I've never used Maracyn Plus before. Anyone know how it differs from Maracyn 1 & 2? Seems like it has completely different active ingredients.
