March meeting: Bring one, Take one

I was thinking of something that might be fun for the next meeting, and a chance to better stock our tanks with variety. I would like to try out a Bring one Take one table. Anyone who wants to participate in this can simply bring a frag with them, They place their frag on the table and choose a different frag in it's place. This will be really helpful to new reefers, and might give a few of the veterans a chance to get something new while providing a way to trim back their frags. For the first meeting there will be no requirements on what you bring. I will be bringing a frag of green polyp birdsnest and I hope someone out there can use it

If this sounds good to anyone please bring a frag and join me in the fun. We can change the format in the future if need be, but I would like to keep it simple the first time around. I also think it best that this be a membrs only gig. Membership has its priveledges

I got a frag of that recently at YR. It's nice-looking and growing quickly!

At the meeting, Pbetito might have a stalker or two until he puts that frag on the table...

Awesome idea Paul... Can we set a few ground-rules to ensure the success of this event? My thoughts:

- All frags must be in hard containers, no plastic baggies
- You must label your container with the species and your RC handle/name
- Clearly label containers with Zoa/Soft/LPS/SPS so we can sort them

Pretty straight forward, like a frag swap...

I'll bring a large yuma (1.5-2")

All good ideas Pete. Those are officially the ground rules I also ask that we all act like humans and there be no quick grabbing, pushing, or shoving. Let's make this fun and repeatable.

What if you gave a rafle ticket to every one that brought a frag and then drew the numbers for order of picking the frags?
This would help avoid pushing and shoving and allow everyone a fair pick.

Chris, an awesome idea! I think Paul should adopt this as a rule as well, since with my luck he will draw me last, Paul will be all over this.

I thought about this, my only fear is that it will take too long. We could however all show up at 6:30 and do the picking order at 6;50. If we hurry we can be done by 7:00... Any thoughts?

Soo.. if I bring 3 frags, can i can take 3 frags? Also, when should we do this? Throughout the meeting, before, after?

So more like the White Elephant Xmas gift exchange we did? That took awhile to do, and with all the background noise was a bit difficult to hear.

I can barely make the meetings at 7 with all the pre-meeting and work, so I will not be able to join in if it was earlier. My vote, for my own selfish reasons, is to do it ad hoc. See if there is a problem first before we try to fix it.

I am setting this up as ONE frag maximum for now. I would do it after the meeting but the raffle has us going late enough as it is. The time is 6:30...be there or be MikeB.

P.S. 170 pounds my %^$... I would guess more like 125 soaking wet :lol:

We will try out 6:30 and see how that works for the first month. If it needs to be adjusted we will make some. We already have the raffle taking WAY too long. This kind of distraction will only make it worse.

I say that too many people will be surrounding a frag table and the raffle will take all night. I am going to try the first one before the meeting and see how it goes. If it doesn't work we can alter it the following month.

I like the ticket idea as well. If you bring one for the trade table, get a ticket. I am willing to show up early! I like getting there a little early anyway. Its been getting a little crowded ant roundtable and seating is going for a premium now
