Wow, where have you guys been all my life!
Well, it's sounding like "the duck" will be the place to be after the meeting! But I gotta warn you, my reccomendation is not because of any special beer selection... never said that. This place is a DIVE. But what it's got in spades is ATMOSPHERE. It is a GREAT bar to pull up to and have a plain 'ole ordinary beer. And they've got tonnes of bar food to go with it if you have the munchies. Primarily seafood snacks and burgers.
Personally, I have a strong preference for their big bowl of boiled crawfish. Great finger food will having a draft, leaning against the bar. You'll see.
Steve, I have been here for 7 years and didn't know there was a decent place to have a beer in Westport! Is that the place on the water next to I95?
Didier - that is exactly the place! Assuming you mean UNDER 195, and not BY it.
The place BY the entrance to I95 south is Dunville's. It is the other great watering hole in Westport. As a European, you'd appreciate that it has the atmosphere of a real Brittish pub (the old kind, not the new fancy ones). If they pulled out a few tables, and let you lean on the rail (yes, it DOES have a beer rail), it would be just like a pub. Bar food there too.
These are the two real watering holes in Westport. "The duck" is usually a decent crowd, but gets rowdy late at night. Especially weekends. Rowdier still if you when see a bunch of bike parked out front - a common occurance.
All the same goes for Dunville's, except - in spurts - it gets rowdier. If there's a fight breaking out in a bar anywhere in Westport, you can bet good odds that it's in Dunville's.
Both of these places are kind of "anti-Wesport", holdovers from what the town used to be when I first moved here (beer dives, gay bars, strip joints, you name it... ). Now all thse fringe places have been replaced by Starbucks, or an upscale restaurant. Except Dunville's, and the good 'ole Duck.
