WE are all set for a get together at The Westport Aquarium on the 21st @3:00. Topic to be announced!
The usual frag swap and raffle should be in effect.
The store will donate some stuff, they are anxious to have us. Hope all the regulars can make it. Invite a newcomer if you can think of someone.
Thanks, Neil

Hello all. I just joined AKRSC (and reefcentral) and will be coming to my first meeting with you all in March! I'm a total noob but watch out - I'm becoming well read and have questions!

Welcome Jason. It's great to meet new members. Looking forward to hearing about your setup.

Thanks Joe! I'm looking forward to meeting you guys. I'll bring some stats and photos. I'm planning on keeping a journal of this experience with notes and pictures.

You should start your own thread :D

Yeah I was thinking of doing so, K. I joined reefcentral just to be able to communicate with AKRSC, I'm more active on nano-reef.com I'll just have to get to know the ropes here on reef central.
Thanks Tang!

Current Tank Info: Biocube 14 still in the box!

Thanks, Brian! I'm looking forward more and more to meeting you all. I will definitely have some q's for you. I'm looking forward to making some mods before I put water in the tank (aside from two leak tests/tap water flushes already completed.)

I haven't been to Westport much, are there any good  there?

Jason

Did someone say beer? If you wanna talk, and sample some of the best craft, micro, and macro brews we should talk

Wow, where have you guys been all my life! I do enjoy specialty beers over the popular American pilsners. I'm into russian imperial stouts and baltic porters around this time of year - but anything malty will do (just enjoyed a Manchester Star last week).

Jason

The Black Duck. 'Tis a watering hole you will not soon forget.

I'll buy the 1st round. :)

Steve, I have been here for 7 years and didn't know there was a decent place to have a beer in Westport! Is that the place on the water next to I95?

Neil, thanks for setting that up. My business is right across the street from Westport Aquarium. Their store is pretty small, so if we need more space, we can always move over.
See you guys there.

Didier

The Black Duck it is.

Well, it's sounding like "the duck" will be the place to be after the meeting! But I gotta warn you, my reccomendation is not because of any special beer selection... never said that. This place is a DIVE. But what it's got in spades is ATMOSPHERE. It is a GREAT bar to pull up to and have a plain 'ole ordinary beer. And they've got tonnes of bar food to go with it if you have the munchies. Primarily seafood snacks and burgers.

Personally, I have a strong preference for their big bowl of boiled crawfish. Great finger food will having a draft, leaning against the bar. You'll see. :)

Didier - that is exactly the place! Assuming you mean UNDER 195, and not BY it.

The place BY the entrance to I95 south is Dunville's. It is the other great watering hole in Westport. As a European, you'd appreciate that it has the atmosphere of a real Brittish pub (the old kind, not the new fancy ones). If they pulled out a few tables, and let you lean on the rail (yes, it DOES have a beer rail), it would be just like a pub. Bar food there too.

These are the two real watering holes in Westport. "The duck" is usually a decent crowd, but gets rowdy late at night. Especially weekends. Rowdier still if you when see a bunch of bike parked out front - a common occurance.

All the same goes for Dunville's, except - in spurts - it gets rowdier. If there's a fight breaking out in a bar anywhere in Westport, you can bet good odds that it's in Dunville's.

Both of these places are kind of "anti-Wesport", holdovers from what the town used to be when I first moved here (beer dives, gay bars, strip joints, you name it... ). Now all thse fringe places have been replaced by Starbucks, or an upscale restaurant. Except Dunville's, and the good 'ole Duck.

If I'm not mistaken "the duck" is "the place" to go for brunch. IMO its not the bikers that make it rowdy but rather the percentage of idiots they have to deal with.

Fish meeting, munchies, and beer. I really have to make sure I find a sitter.
