March Meeting

Sure thought I could make this meeting, but family plans have changed and it turns out that I won't be able to. Sorry to miss it.

Austin's birthday party is that saturday, so I have sundayto recover form screaming kids and to relax b4 hitting the road. I cannot make it..

Oh yea, if anyone from the borro is going, hit me a PM tonight!. I need to return the trap I borrowed from Crumble

Remember to bring your refractometer to the meeting if you have one. I have some super accurate calibration solution available that was mixed up by c_stowers:

Water = 18.2 MegaOhm (ultra pure).
NaCl = 99.9% Minimum, HPLC Grade from Sigma Aldrich

Mixed up 36.50 grams of NaCl with 963.5 cc's of water to make a super accurate 35 ppt solution.

I used this solution to also make up a small batch of 1.009 so if anyone is doing hypo and wants to see if your refractometer works well for that SG, we can test that as well.

Looking forward to seeing folks at the meeting!

My wifes twin sisters wedding in on Sat at 2:00, I doubt I will be able to make it.

Alan

Twin sister? Hmmm.

I should finally be able to make a meeting again, Refractometer in hand (as well as beer, assuming that is OK).

Yep that's fine. Glad you can make it!

Hope you can come, Gary.

For all those who come, I have 25 small containers of the 35 ppt salinity standard. Based on those who have responded so far, I think this means everyone will get to go home with some high quality salinity reference solution. C_stowers put it into the containers this morning, and I labeled them and wrapped the lids in parafilm to lock in that crispy freshness! Should be a good time.

Hmmm, I should have thought to ask for some PH fluids to calibrate my reefanatic with. Great idea on the refcactometer testing. I often wonder about my new one. I have never tested it or calibrated it.

It sounds like I have a strong likelihood of making it. If so, I'll also bring the Corals of the World series so you can see why I'm so excited about them:).

Oops-Gobyholic forgot about something--unfortunately, he and I will be unable to attend the meeting tomorrow. Will miss ya! See ya next month, hopefully!

Well, I was on my way and got dizzy feeling and was having trouble concentrating on driving so I turned back. I have been having sinus/allergy trouble the last few days so I guess that was it.

Sorry I didn't make it either! :( Big exausting yard sell, did birthday Thursday so we could do the sale today. I was wiped out and had to clean house after the sell for a "boys night out poker game" at my house tonight. Really was looking foward to comming!! Especially since you were close to me.

We had a good time. The topic went well, and because part of the discussion was about stability, lots of questions came up about maintaining calcium and alkalinity. Everyone got some super accurate 35 ppt refracto calibration solution. Sorry some of you couldn't make it. Michael, I hope you are doing okay -- sounds like you are having a bit of a rough time.

Thanks Chris and Jack for the solution. I'm looking forward to using it. Thought it was a great discussion about the refractometers and calcium/alkalinity. As I add more and more SPS, the calcium/alkalinity issue is one I'm going to have to pay more attention to.

Thanks for opening up your place to us and I can't wait to see that tank in another year when all those SPS are full-on colonies.

Here are the pics of the reactors I was talking about.
