Margarita Snails

Is it true that margarita snails will slowly cook to death in a reef tank?? I keep my tank at 78-79. I lost two in the past two months.

According to a web page that I found, they like temp. 72 - 78° F. Probably not higher then that.

I heard this too. I think usually 2-4 months is common. I also think that their are warm water ones but they aren't common in the trade....

Depending upon the species of Margarita snail, they can suffer from heat stress in our tanks. The most common ones are collected from cold water locations where the temperature is typically in the 50s and 60s, not 70s and 80s like our tanks.

This leads to their pretty rapid death (in a few months typically), which is a real shame as some of these snails are known to live for decades in the wild.
