If I remove all fish from my display and move to QT for 40 days (for treatment), will this eradicate the parasite from the display?

After reading the sticky thread: the parasite on the sand bed needs 28 days to find a host. Plus lets say another 24 hours to find a new host once they become free swimming parasite again. Is this correct?

I plan to leave the display fish free for 40 days just to be sure that the ick is all dead.

I'd go 90 days. It is not a 100% guarantee, but it will definitely knock the numbers down.
