Hi Guys,

we are getting closer to close on the new house, and i want to start looking into ordering the new tank :dance::dance::dance::dance:

I am currently debating between marineland 265 reefready or custom tank. any thoughts, suggestions or recommendations?

I am planning to have the sump in an adjacent room;;

Why pick one over the other? If you like the dimensions and proportions of the marine land, then why spend more money for the same size tank? If you are not looking to build the same size tank the why even look at themarineland?

I was having a similar debate with myself and ultimately decided to go with the 265. Custom tanks carry a pretty hefty premium, particularly if you can buy the ML during one of their periodic tank sales (265 cost me less than half of custom). Overflows on the 265 are workable - what is it you don't like? An option is to order a non-reef ready 265 and put in your own C2C/Bean overflow. Don't know about the bottom, but the rear of the 265 is not tempered as I had mine drilled for a closed loop.

I was in the same dilemma, I had some quotes from 3 different custom builders and it ranged from $2500 all the way up to $4000 for the dimensions 72L 36W 27T which was the Marineland 300DD Dimensions. At the end of the day I opted for the Marineland since I was saving over a grand, which I can use for other equipment. Also the factor was my tank was going into a niche and will be enclosed anyway and the only in view will be the starphire front glass. I will probably use both holes on each end as drains and do an over the back return and maybe use a couple of 1" sea swirls or drill 1" inch holes in the back. I to wanted external over flows, but having the tank 8-10 inches from the wall was a no no, because of the limited space in my niche.

I don't like the overflows, want to have C2C, i am also not crazy about that black trim :)

I also wanted to put the overflow behind the aquarium save these extra 5-6" inches and leave it behind it.

What did you end up paying for your 265 if you don't mind me asking?
