Marine Pure Rock

It's the rock in the middle of the pic. The 4x4x8 blocks don't exactly fit in the back of the Nuvo but even if it did they need more static water to actually get anaerobic filtration going so the flow in the sump would negate that on this tank.

So i went with the Rock. There is almost NOTHING online regarding this thing so I figured I would start a thread. I gotta say I do like it alot. Looks natural from a shape point of view. I really think it would be better suited hidden under rock where it would not get encrusted and lose some efficiency. That being said it's overkill as is with a 30 gallon so I don't mind. It's incredibly light and seems very fragile. It's in the lowest flow section of the tank. I used 18lbs of fossilized dry rock which has terrible internal surface area for pore structure so it's mostly for looks and mounting things. Almost 100% of the filtration is the rock. I'm trying to stock the heck out of it to get SOME sort of algae bloom but nothing yet. I have a scrubber going for phosphates but with the lack of nitrates it's not starting up yet. In time

Nice, I look forward to your observations. I use the blocks in my sump but they seemed VERY fragile and I wasn't sure if the rocks would just disintegrate in my DT or not.

That was my experience with the block as well. I cut mine into sections to fit it in my sump, doing this created a mess. I've since pulled it out.

The rock does look great!

So how is the tank doing??

This rock (all i can really attest it to) is AMAZING. I have NEVER had a tank read undetectable NO3 (nitrate). Now i don't have the ultra low range test kit so I don't know exactly where it is but my goodness. I had a diatom outbreak, albeit a mild one, that lasted a week then gone. I do have a diy algae scrubber that produces hardly anything, like a thin film of slime.

I have 4 fish, 8 snails, 1 star, 2 hermits, 1 green bta and a neon green nephthea. Feed lightly twice a day.

How old is this tank? 5 weeks.......5 freaking weeks to get to zero no3? no real algae bloom. There is a ghost skimmer that produces some, and also carbon. I've done 1 - 25% water change in the last 3 weeks a week ago.

any thoughts? I already have green coraline coming in

oh one note for nano tank owners. The rock takes up a lot of real estate (which is precious in a small tank) and you don't want corals on it, obviously. So yeah, there is that. But for not having a sump this is the way to a clean tank. I'll keep everyone updated

Also I don't think the little algae there is will support these snails very long so a few may have to go.
