marine velvet question

seems i brought home a fish with velvet, im planning on taking him and the other fish out for quarantine, but my question is it going to stay on my sand and rock? thinking about pulling the sand and rock if its going to still be on it

Blog info is excellent. I've had good success with copper (Cupramine) and a Salifert copper test kit.
