Marine Velvet

As far as I know, only copper, and even then, not always successful. So what's going on, that you are asking these questions?

Im not sure if my clownfish has velvet, it has been about a week since I noticed the symptoms. He is very lazy, and will lie on his side, when he swims he sometimes swims sideways or pointing upwards. I have him in QT but have no copper medication so Im using hyposalinity. I am noticing no velvet 'film' around him, and he is still in the same condition so im not sure if it is velvet

A pic would really help. The time-line isn't right for velvet or brook. It usually kills quickly. This sounds more like brooklynella, very common in clowns and tough to cure. Its also very contagious, as is velvet. Google "marine velvet" and "marine brooklynella" and see if one makes sense. Velvet or Brook: all fish that were exposed need to be treated and the DT left fishless for 6+weeks. Copper is the only cure for velvet, Formalin the only cure for brook. Hypo does nothing for either.

OMG...think I know what might be wrong. I just realized about a week ago I fed mysis BAD mysis shrimp to my clown and my peppermint shrimp. The peppermint shrimp died a day after...
I had defrosted some mysis, and then went to do something else, got back to my tank, and fed the clown and shrimp some mysis but it was a from a week old batch i never dumped :headwally:
Like I said the peppermint shrimp diedthe next day, and the clown started swimming funny. A few days (about 2) clown started lying at the bottom, breathing heavily, in low light areas/hidden spots. The clown is in QT, and his coloration seems normal, he is lying on his side and breathing heavily. I have him in hyposalinity right now because I thought it may be ich, but now I seriously doubt it. Also as previously mentioned I have no copper meds, or antibiotics whatsoever. Dumb of me, Im new to SW...

I really doubt it was the mysis.

Lol with the Brookes...I think it had something to do with the mysis because the only things that ate it were the shrimp and the clown...idk like you guy are saying with both diseases it would be dead by now

Try a formalin bath. Hikari makes a product called IchX which is foramlin( 3% fortmadelhyde). It helps brooklynella and other parasitic infections. Formalin is a treatment of choice for brooklnella. I know I was born and raised in Brooklyn and was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan( baseball not the 1920's football team of the same name).
