It has to do with how much flow you are running through your returns. The overflows are designed to handle 1400gph and if you are at that mark, or under, your cross braces will not be in the water. Mine sit about 1/2" above the surface. Try dialing back your return pump and see if that fixes things. If you are looking to run that much water through your sump, then you will most likely have to modify the overflows to handle that flow rate. Hope that's helpful.
That's what it's supposed to be, but it's not what it actually is in reality, as with a lot of things in this hobby. It happened when I was running about 800 gph through them. Still happens now, even after modifying, and running 1200-1300gph.
That's interesting. I know other people have complained of the same problem and I've seen it on a friend's tank who was running a dual herbie setup. I am running a dialed back Reeflo Hammerhead for my return pump, so I'm not exactly sure what my flow rate is, but I would guess I'm right around 1400gph. I'm also using the stock durso drain setup. My 300DD was manufactured in 2014, so I guess it's possible they made some tweaks. Maybe someone else with a newer DD tank will weigh in on the topic as well.
