How many watts of light are you running on this tank? If you go by the general rule of thumb 5 watts a gallon that would require 1500 watts. I am worried about heat build up with that much light.

I have 8, 80 watt T5s on IceCap ballasts so they are being overdriven to about 110 or 115 each I suppose. Very cool, I can actually put my hand on the bulbs after 8 hours. I don't really see why you would need 1500 watts.

IMO rules of thumbs are a hair above opinions.

wow u guys are lucky here at the lfs they are going for 3800 which include a pine stand that you could build yourself for about 40 bucks lol

Wow $3800 dollars is way off. Come to edmonton and I'll sell you a brand new 375 8 footer with 2" steel stand for $1000 less

I simply love my 300 DD, $3300 Tank, stand and canopy at my LFS is what I spent. I am going to be upgrading again and my LFS called and the longest in that DD custom, he was told they can do it 10ft.

As far as build quality, they are solid. Their only flaws are 2 things:

1.) The overflows really aren't sufficient for a large tank so they require modding.

2.) The braces are monster thick so they cast shadows and actually dip into the water on mine.

However, for the money they are great. Custom tanks I priced were considerably more.

Throttle your return pump down or get one that better matches the GPH of the overflows and your braces won't touch the water anymore. If the crossbraces are touching the water then you are pumping way way more water into the display than the overflows can suck back out. And nothing will fix it other than throttling your pump back or getting a pump that better matches the returns.

Also if you dryfit the pipes in your overflow make sure the pieces are fully seated in the various couplings, etc. When I first got going on mine I was wondering why my overflow water level was the same as the main waterline, lo and behold, overflow pipe wasen't fully seated in a coupling. Fixing that made the water in my overflow drop down to the proper level of about 1 inch below the main waterline.
