Mark's 180 Starfire upgrade

Mark, have you got it connected to your mac yet? I'm going to try this today. When I get home from work, I'm going to call Curt and see if he can help me out.

BTW, if you figure it out, please let me know or have him provide some feedback in this thread in the Neptune forum that I created; Thanks :)

Great job! I was wondering about the lighting spectrum...earlier (I think it was the May shot or June) it had a lower K rating as it appeared in the shot. Maybe 14k? No? Or was the camera adjusting the shot?

Looks great!

Thank You :)

The only bulbs I've ever had on this tank are 250 watt Radiums 20K and vhos'. I did get a new camera late last year so it was probably me just learning the differences between the two ;)

I will post what I heard from Kurt here, if you don't mind. Here are the steps to get it connected to the Mac.

1. Connect cable from Apex to router
2. On Apex, go to setup then scroll down to net setup
3. Go to DHCP and turn it on.
4. Then scroll down to restart and restart the unit (this will take about 20-45 seconds)
5. Go back to DHCP and turn it off
6. Then go to ip address. For some reason, he told me to change the last few numbers of the ip address to .50. I cant recall what it was before but I changed it. My ip address reads 192.168.1.50
7. Next, you type in the ip address in your browser and an apex screen should pop up.
8. Type in Admin for username and either 123 or 1234 for the code ( I forget which one it was).

Let me know if this works for you. It worked for me!

I need about 80ft of cable to do this unless the apex is not supposed to plugged into the power bar :sad2:

There is a work around where it can be wireless but you need some sort of other device (video game type modem I think). I just hooked up my iPhone to the Apex and I can now control everything from the phone!

Mark, I just put my calcium reactor online last night and was wondering if the Zeovit Mg rocks are supposed to break down? I just looked and most of it has turned to sand! Is that what it is supposed to do?

Just get another wireless router and create a bridge. There are a number of threads in there forum on how to do this. The only down side is that you will have to connect it to your laptop to do firmware updates, as the bridge will cause files to drop :).

I have two wireless routers already :) I have a netgear and the airport. I guess its time for me to start reading and catching up. I was planning on bringing on of my routers and placing it on the wall of my stand when that day comes ;)

Hey James. Thanks for the offer, but I'm not prepared for the over haul quite yet. I think I might look for a new pieces of LR.
