Mark's 180 Starfire upgrade

So what's the hiearchy?

Emma > Amanda > Fish > Mark? :frog:

Depends on whether you're asking Mark or Amanda:lol2:

But really I think it's more like this:

Emma > Fish = Corals > Amanda > Mark. Mark may think he's higher on the totem pole, but he's smart enough to pretend to ask Amanda's opinions...:fun4:

hah dang and a plane ticket to california for a day wouldn't be cheap.

But we've never met before, so you still would not be allowed in as I do not let strangers over to my house unless I've met you before. Sorry :strooper:

LOL, poor Mark! We're just having a lil fun :wavehand:

You also forgot about Rubi, Lucy the cat and that other frickin ferrel cat that showed up a couple months ago and I can not catch :blown:

True, but I assumed(a mistake, I know) that they'd be further down the totem pole.

I, on the other hand, am at the pinnacle. Just don't tell my wife, daughters, nor the runt of a dog that all assume I'm their personal servant. I wouldn't want them to think my ego or seeming self worth is too elevated.:frog:

Firstly - Its a bummer to hear about problems with your system, Mark. I'm a fan and it is a pain to read of things going down hill. As far as your test kits go, the most recent Salifert kits I've gotten have included a little bottle of calibration solution. Seems like a great idea. All kit makers should follow suit.

Not really. I changed things up because I had too many corals fighting for light and flow against each other. The problems started about 3 weeks after the rescape after the mechanical problems started to pile on one after the other.

Secondly, I think this is an extremely important topic that we discuss on the large reef tank forum. I have seen several systems run into problems from being "too successful" (our 180g system was one of these). Big coral colonies create a complex set of challenges such as high uptake of alk, ca, trace elements; flow and light obstruction; chemical warfare; the list goes on. I would be really interested in participating in a discussion that addresses these issues and how we're handling them.

Thanks for the feedback, but I already lost a lot of corals to salifert so I will never use any of their products :( I have a lamotte kit now and I like the idea of refills now :) I still find it amazing that we spend so much money, time and effort on our systems and they can come crashing down because of something so simple as a bad test kit, faulty heater or even a check valve,

As for a discussion about the conflicts in our tanks. Mine was not so much the corals fault, but the guy who things its ok to overfill his tank and that he is above what nature is all about. I know my tank has enough flow, but maybe its time to ditch my tunzes and replace with some more vt's as the streams are almost too concentrated of a flow patten as corals grow upwards. I accidently left a 6105 pointed at a 5 year colony and since it was already stressed, most of it was white when I realized what I had done

Oh well, these mistakes are my own and I used to have more fail-safe measures, but I got complacent as I was tired of the hobby. Just like when I turned on the UV steralizer a few nights ago to push a "reset button" I have been brushing up on some of my old reef notes to remind me what creates success.

The human ego is my worst enemy

Nice photo Mark  Do you turn off your flow when you photograph?

Sometimes yes and sometimes now. I think I just turned the flow down for these as I only snapped a quick few for one of my friends and they other corals said "Hello....Please take pictures of me as well...Cheese", so I kind of had to shoot a few extras :D

Well, that was my first guess. Your alt simplex seems to have the some coloration :strange:.

I guess that is what happens when it is marketed as one thing so a vendor can charge more and it turns out to be somethinng entirely different :twitch:
