Mark's 180 Starfire upgrade

Dan, they are two very different and distinctive looks and I like the look. LED's provide something you can't get in vhos and vhos' provide something you can't get in LED's. I like having the option of both :p
I was afraid that you would say that. Sometimes I think that I should go with a canopy so that I could increase my options but I guess I stick it out since I've gone this long. Looking forward to see what the new LED pendants will look like in real life. Some of them sure look sexy in the photos that have been coming out.

You should know by now that most of Mark answers are encrypted :p.

Mark, good luck in recovering of the tank, it will come back for you even better.

Since you guys talked about VHO super actinic, I want to ask you a question: other than visual fluorescent effect, does the VHO supplemental in fact promote color of certain segment as well? specifically purple and red.

I am new to SPS, your tank is one of the inspiration for me to switch from ALL-T5 to Radium, you can check my tank here for the changes happening. Thank you and keep the good work!

i would say it helps alittle bit of straightening the coral but one thing that i noticed with t-5 is a coral didnt gain a certain color when i added a pink bulb the only change that happend was the pink reflecting back.thats one thing i noticed in my tanks the corals dont gain color they just change with the lights as soon as the light changes. then again im a noob and i want to hear what mark and other of the pros that lurk on this thread will say :)

Thanks for the support. The best color for reds and purples are 10K bulbs; they have the best spike for them. Reds are tough with 20k bulbs as the blue spike presents the reds more pink under lower nutrient levels.

I'll keep on eye on your thread and drop by

I have seen your beautiful pictures all over RC, but I never found the build thread because I didn't frequent the Large Tank Forum that much. Now that i have found it I can say that i am even more impressed, this is a wonderful setup! It was sad to hear about the troubles you've been having recently, but you and the tank seem to be pulling through. I hope my future large tank will end up having as much success!

Thank You Alex for the compliments and good luck with your tank :)

Dan, You should contact Joy at ReefBrite. I believe if your fixture has an end screw, she may have a mounting clip that you can add an LED to your fixture ;)

lol thanks mark i was searching for it, i was looking on the magazine site but it was only letting me see 3 months from that year and yours wasnt one of them. Thanks im gonna save it as a favorite link. :)

That what I figured but googling "La Copa" that was the first thing that came up. The cup of life :).

If not, your could alway use this link :p

I always learn the most interesting things on this thread. Thanks again, Mark. :lolspin:

Dan - some of the new LED fixtures coming to market look very slick. Did you see the pics of the Giesemann Quazar? Just need the intensity and the spacing of the lights to improve some more ...

Now I am confused, hope you don't mind bit of basic reef discussion. There are three primary colors: red, green, blue, 10K renders two of them better, how come most of people think high kevin color up corals better?

My current 75G tank will be pretty much on Radium alone without any supplemental, I will see what kind of color can I achieve by Radium alone. But I am thinking my future upgrade: a 48" X 30" (D) X 20"(H) starphire (no more regular glass, I hate it after seeing those starphire) rimsless, the light will be either 10 blub PM or 2X 250W MH and 4X 54W T5.

If I go for the MH/T5 combo, I was thinking 2X Radium 2X Pure Actinic (420 peak) 1X blue+ (460 peak, 22K look) and 1X blue plus (full spectrum 12K look). But your answer really make me thinking of 2X 10K XM and 4X blue+, what do you think? Maybe I will ask Dan in his thread since he is running MH/T5 combo.
