Mark's 180 Starfire upgrade

Holy PE did you just put some kind of food in the water. I thought you didnt have the great PE in your tank since putting Angels in your tank???

I forget whats the green with pink tips stag called, i think you told me before but i forget. Also do you know if that is still available anywhere at all? Great looking pics and good luck with the tree.

The power went out today while I was at work due to the storms so the halides were off. Due to the corals thinking it was night mode and the reduced amounts of flow, They were just stretching a bit :)

wow looks like we got big soccer ppl here... sorry for changing the sub... but i hope argentina loses tomorrow and equador wins their game, that would make my day.... btw beautiful carols you got there

Please never apologize for changing the subject in my thread; especially if its about the greatest game  My thread has been known to contain plenty of off tiopic threads-- Beware of the Banter-- :)

Wow! i've missed this thread.. Wonderful tank and corals!

A world cup should include the biggest stars so i really hope Messi and Argentina make it thru after all.. Unfortunately it looks like Ibracadabra wont be there...

Thank you addo,

Every cup is always missing a few of the games greatest stars, but I am so ready for next summer :)

Your tank is always my dream tank. You have the best collection of sps.
Just curious, what is your setup for power backup system?

Wow... Thank you :) As for backup, I have one of my vortech's hooked up to a battery backup and I have a honda generator for those worst case scenarios.

Part III of sand removal

:eek1: Looks dirty.

I find it pretty amazing everytime I pull some sand how much dirt and detritus comes out of the tank.

Mark, are you going bare bottom?

I'm not really sure. I like the look of sand in tanks, but I am still having some diatoms in the tank and I can not find what is feeding them. All I am trying to do is cross one more option off my list before I start cooking some new rock. It may be a little extreme to most, but I guess those people do not know me to well when it comes to this hobby :p My plan is pull as much sand out that I can, go through as much GFO as I can and see if they are being fed by a few excess phospates that have been built up.
There are just so many different variables when it comes to our tanks. Sometimes it takes us doing a few things that are not fun to achieve our long term goals :)

Good luck, I hope you find the problem.

Thanks. Things have started getting better since I started removing the sand. I tried it out a month ago in the back corners and it took a while for them to come back. Either way, it gives me something to do in regards to the tank and I do much better in this hobby when I have something to do :)

Prodibio and food. The diatoms have been around from before I was dosing anything. I have read that some report diatoms from dosing vodka. There is something else adding to their source. If this does not work, I will be sending some to a friend to have them lab tested.

What were you thinking?

Could be sand. I think as you uncover it more PO4 is bound. What is going to lab sand and rock? Have you done the sand in RO water soak then test PO4?

I am thinking of new tank! No 10 years of "stuff"!!!
