Mark's 180 Starfire upgrade

How long were you sandless and how in the world did you get all the sand from behind the rocks? BTW, what's the verdict on the new cuvettes for the Hanna? Any differences in the test results?

Kenny. I started the process back on 10/2. It took beasically three week to remove 90% of the sand. Since my rocks are not against the back wall, I was able to syphon the sand behind the rocks. Anything else, I just pointed the 6055's towards the bottom and vacummed where everything settled.

As for the cuvets, I'll let you know, I still need to unpack that box

Dang Mark! I haven't read your thread in a few days and a lot has happend since then. LOL! Well im glad Emma's reagal is doing good and the tank looks much better with sand imo.

Kenny/Mark, FWIW I tested using the old cuvettes then immediately after used the new cuvettes. The old tested 0.06 and the new tested 0.04 so it made a bid difference for me. Storing the cuvettes in RODI now based on Brian's advice.

And just when I started to like the BB....I'm loving the sand again

Was the sand you took out from YR?

Jay, I never liked it without sand. I could not wait to get sand back in the tank.

As for the sand I removed. Some of it was and some was from other places. Like I said before, I could not source my problems for sure, so I just have started to cross off items one by one.

I recently replaced all of my filters, DI and membrane as well.

:sad1:

24 hours later, The tank just looks brown since the corals are readjusting. I spent 5 hours yesterday working on a few corals and trying to get things back normal. Of course, after 4 tubes of glue and breaking a few colonies, I am glad to be back at work.

Thanks Stacie. How's life back there? Did you ever upgrade?

Doin' good. No no upgrade, once we started losing some SPS I lost the want for the upgrade. I was pretty bummed losing stuff out of a 210 I can not imagine going thru something like that with a 400 plus tank. I still have not gotten back into the collecting like I was. But looking at your tank makes me miss mine when it was jammed full.:)

:( I'm sorry to hear, Losses are tough, I loss a turaki colony that I had for close to 4 years that I started as a frag. That one was not fun to pullout and throw away. I too could not imagine having troubles in atank that large. At times, I still can not believe I have 240 gallons of water in my front room.

I have to agree, it does look a lot better with sand :) Good news about the fish, would be bad to loose such a beauty.
Keep us updated about the process.

Sweet shot!

Hows the Regal?

Thanks Ryan. The regal is doing well. The jocs still pester her, but she hangs out up near my frag rack for extra protection. She eats everyday and she has even ventured more into the reef.
