Mark's 180 Starfire upgrade

Is there a freaking coral that Mark doesn't have?

Yes Sang, there are a lot of corals that I do not have, but not too many that I actually want that I don't have :) I'm not afraid to trade out pieces from time to time. I've been thinking of removing my stag colony on the left side just so I can add a couple pieces to my collection :D

Here is a shot of the RHCP before I broke up my colony to remove it from the display.

Congratulations Mark! I always enjoy looking at the TOTM's but this month is extra special because I've also enjoyed learning from your posts and PMs here and all across RC. Your willingness to share, your ability to think independently (not very common here...), and your sense of humor are all very much appreciated and inspiring. Thank you.

Thanks Tony. I appreciate the kind words and I'm looking forward to seeing your tank once its complete :)

Mark, would you go with a 1.5" or 2" drain? I'm definitely going with a schedule 80 bulkhead btw. Fwiw, the tank is only 100g or so, and will have roughly 600-800gph of water running through it.

Btw, just ordered the lights, reflector and ballast.:)

For that amount of flow, as long as you are not drain feeding a skimmer, one 1.5" drain will be plenty.

Good luck Sang

Yeah, I figured 1.5" should be plenty. I'm not a fan of heavy flow through the sump as I like my skimmer to have more contact with the water. On another note, I have decided to go with a center overflow and one 3/4" return. Where would you guys put the return at? I am still undecided on a rectangular or trapezoidal overflow. I am leaning toward having Leemar cut a 3/4" hole on the rear glass panel right next to the overflow chamber. Or, I could have them cut a hole in the overflow chamber for the return. I wonder which one would look cleaner?

Beautiful shot, why did you remove it? Was it growing over some of your other corals?

I had really grown out and It had start to over grow my PM colony :( It also gave me the chance to move a couple pieces I needed to.
