I picked up a new carbon reactor yesterday...more details to come (maybe) :hmm3:
I truly hope you don't decide to go the zeo route. Your getting great colors and growth already not sure why you would change anything? Deciding to go zeo was a regret for me. My tank is doing 100x better now that im off that junk. Just my 2 cents...

I truly believe there is way more to undertsnding the zeovit system than concentrating on colors. I am not looking into it for the coloration, I am pondering the system to learn a new methodology of nutrient import vs export. I think too many people attempt zeo at the recommended doses, which is the maximum, and then they are constantly just chasing something through different supplements that are basically glorified sales products.
Who knows; this experiment might end terribly and that is a decision I will deal with if that happens. But no matter what, I know I have a method that I've proven to work that I can fall back on. Corals grow and corals die; Everything in the middle is what is fun and challenging about this hobby.

It was my ignorance and lack of education on the subject that has allowed to be open-minded just enough to give zeovit a go. I think Mark is on the right path as far as getting the basics down and going from there. It's really the best way to see what it does "first" and then trying one product at a time to see where you can go from there.
Most of the products are pretty specific in what they are supposed to do...
Anyhow, as a first time Zeo user coming up on almost the 1st year of running Zeo from the very start (on my newest reef) I can say that it has been both interesting and challenging.
After over a decade of reefing and a very bad/costly tank crash about a year and a half ago I got very despondent about reefing. I was really bumbed at having just lost a very beautiful reef that was the fruition of over several years of collecting and growing things out from just a frag... each and every piece! I thought of quitting all together but somehow just new that I couldn't. So, I began looking into things here on RC and boning up on all the new trends, lighting, skimmers and equipment of all kinds that had come such a very long way since I began doing what I was doing which was pretty much old school everything and nothing else. I was successful at what I was doing but got kind of board at it I guess.
Anyway, I don't want to droan on any more than I have but to sum it all up once I got a look at a real Zeovit tank I was SUCKED in! From that moment on I did endless research on the web and lets just say I lost a lot of sleep for awhile. I had dabbled briefly with Prodibio thinking it would be cheaper to run than a full blown Zeovit system but soon found out that it wasn't as much as I thought to do it after all.
So, in summation I decided that from the beginning of this my newest reef that I was going to try a new methodology and that it was going to be Zeovit. I'm not one to do things half way and trust me, I've gone all the way!
Long story short, I know where Mark is coming from and I respect it because I was in his shoes just over a year ago, minus having just gotten TOTM, lol... but anyway I felt I was at a crossroads in my reefing and needed a challenge. That challenge was Zeovit.
I will now step down from my soap box and ask that you forgive me Mark for taking up so much of your thread with my rant.

Some people keep telling me that I am crazy for even thinking of attempting zeo and they may be correct, but I am also not one of those people that will pass up an opportunity to learn and challenge myself. It is because those same people why I am intrigued by the challenge. I relish the opportunity to improve my life and its experiences when other people are threatened by fear of the unknown

Whoa that was long Dave hahaha.... But I totally understand what your saying. Hope I didn't offend you in any way, I can get a lil opinionated at times :wildone: LOL... To sum it all up I believe if it ain't broke don't fix it (I wish I practiced what I preached though hahahaha). To each his own :beer:

No problem. I can understand the thing about not being broke, but I try to live my life trying to improve and try new things along the way. Its like when I go to the gym, If I kept doing the same thing day in and day out, I would never know what I'm capable of and how far I can go after my brain tells me that I should quit while I'm ahead.
Zeovit is just another method of carbon dosing. I have tried vodk and didn't care for it and since I don't drink, it just didn't feel right buying vodka at a liquor store for my fish tank. I have being running prodibio for some time and even though the tank is decent right now, there are still small patches of diatom/dinos that I haven't been able to figure out. I have done enough research to know that that carbon dosing could be a reasonable explanation.
Like I said in my previous post, zeovit is just another method and I don't care about chasing the coloration. I want to solve a couple problems that are broke imo and I might as well try a new method of reefkeeping at the same time :thumbsup:
I fully understand that you want to continue to improve your tank and try different things. That is what makes this hobby interesting.
I'm looking forward to you experiences with Zeovit. I've really considered to incorporate the basic-4 myself but never really did. I'm interested what your experiences will be so I can consider to go that route myself
