Mark's 180 Starfire upgrade

I fully understand that you want to continue to improve your tank and try different things. That is what makes this hobby interesting.
I'm looking forward to you experiences with Zeovit. I've really considered to incorporate the basic-4 myself but never really did. I'm interested what your experiences will be so I can consider to go that route myself :)

Leonardo

Thanks Leonardo. My dosing schedule is going to be very small in comparison to the recommended; starting somewhere in 25% range and building up towards the 50% range. I'm very grateful to have some very knowledgeable people that have years of success at zeovit that are willing to share their experiences and knowledge with me openly, feely and unbiased; good and bad.

That is definitely a real benefit to the success I think. Please share your knowledge here so I can learn from it too. :)
I think it is the right way to incorporate it very slowly, and keep it simple. All the extra additives made me hesitating, but I think the basics can really benefit the tank.

To be honest Leonard, I used to feel the same way. It is sometimes overwhelming to the nonzeo educated. Then after speaking to people about bacteria and how the basic principles worked; I began to gain a better foundation for my learning. It was then I decided to concentrate on the basics and not chasing a specific supplement for a "possible" fix.

There are so many analogies to that I can use, but I will keep with the gym anaology. Many people who go to the gym work out very hard the first couple times back, they come home sore and discouraged shortly afterwards. Sooner or later the mind uses this and tells them they are too sore and they decide to not go. It will happen again and again until not going becomes easier and easier.
My point is about working out is how its a long term process and there shouldn't be an end goal; just a healthier life. That is is the same process I will be implementing with my tank. I will be starting a slow as I can because I want to work on my tanks core and set up a stable base. The rest of it, well...the pretty blue bottles are mesmerizing, but zeovit is also a sales based company; something to keep in mind. Just sayin

My 2 cents (and actually worth much less) is that there are several approaches that can lead to success however not every path is the right fit for each individual tank/reefer and there is plenty of snake oil/miracle potions out there. Obviously there are many fabulous Zeo, Probidio, vodka, none of the above and hybrid of the above tanks. IMHO husbandry practices play a huge part in a successful tank but sometimes even people having great husbandry practices have failures due to some unidentifiable reason. (Personally I attribute it to the Reef Gods. Maybe I should ritualistically sacrifice a chromis now and then.) Good for you Mark for (maybe) attempting Zeo, with your obsessive compulsive traits and attention to detail you're a perfect candidate

I agree with Dan... there are certainly more ways than one to "skin a cat". I didn't mean to get on the Zeo "soap box" and start a big ruckus... Just to say that I've had fun with a new approach to what's become a long standing passion more than anything!

As with any love affair, you've got to work at it sometimes and try new things!

Now, as far as sacrificing to the reef gods, I would hope you post this on YouTube so we can vicariously take part with you, lol!~ :lolspin:

In the end as long as we are consistent in "whatever" method we chose you're sure to experience success and occasional failure, in one form or another! I just happen to be very OCD(if you hadn't noticed, lol!) so, it works well for me!

Did you get that achilles :wavehand:

Yup, so excited. One of my favorite fish. I've tried 2 myself, but could never get them to eat. My main concern with this one was if my sohal would accept him...so far so good! My achilles is cruising the tank and eating like a champ

I can remember (even though it seems ages ago) about how you used to drool over the ones I would get. Congrats Terry

Just between we BK brothers...this is a secret....shhhhhh!.....I was just doin a little ego-building for dem ATB owners. We know what the real deal is

You guys better stick together, but the way Terry, have you seen this :lmao:

Did most of that happen before....... :D.

No way :p I am one of those people that does not dwell on the past so its no big deal anyways; besides, between the Zeovit and the TOTM curse, everything should be dead soon anyways :sad1:

Whoa that was long Dave hahaha.... But I totally understand what your saying. Hope I didn't offend you in any way, I can get a lil opinionated at times :wildone: LOL... To sum it all up I believe if it ain't broke don't fix it (I wish I practiced what I preached though hahahaha). To each his own

Mark, good luck on your new journey! Im sure you'll add your magic touch to it.

No biggy Ramzy... sorry to be so long winded, I get a little wound up some times, lol!~ :jester:

That TOTM curse has just about as much truth to it as ATB users saying there skimmers better than a BK....... not much truth to it at all :p.
